Omaha police shot and killed a woman on Tuesday after they say she seized a 3-year-old kid at a Walmart and slashed him with a knife. The police named her Noemi Guzman and said she was 31 years old. According to WOWT, police say she stole a big knife from a store, accosted the boy and his guardian, and then had the guardian go ahead as she pushed the cart into the parking lot. Deputy Chief Scott Gray says she "took the child, which is basically kidnapping the child." Police claim the two ladies "talked back and forth" for a few minutes before officers got to the scene after getting a 911 call. Police said that officers told Guzman to drop the knife many times.
According to the AP, Gray then "swiped the knife at the child, cutting him across the face," which made two police shoot. A passerby and the child's guardian got him out of the cart and helped him. He was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. Gray claims he had a big cut on his face and another on his hand. Even though authorities tried to save Guzman, she died at the spot. WOWT said that two years ago she was ruled not guilty by reason of insanity after being accused of breaking into a church rectory and lighting her father's house on fire. Gray says the two ladies didn't know each other, and it's not apparent what made Guzman angry.
